Handcent for SMS

Posted in myLife on August 4, 2010 by luisalicea

Handcent has been an awesome addition to my EVO. The way it handles text messaging is really nice with the pop up quick reply feature and being able to assign specific tones just for text messaging instead of the global notification is pretty nice. The look and feel overall vs the stock message control is better.

I haven’t tried chompsms yet but I hear that’s another good one.

HD finally!

Posted in myWork on August 1, 2010 by luisalicea

We have finally reached the point where we will be upgrading all of our video systems to HD at church.

I’m definitely excited, but I’ve been working my tail off to make sure that the transition will be smooth. We are about 2 months away from the transition but still have a ton of hours of planning to do!

One thing is for sure this will drastically change the way we do video.

This was an extremely helpful site when checking into the battery life of this phone. It was bad until I went through these 20 tips…

20 Tips to Improve Evo Life

It seems odd that you have to go through these tips with such a phone, but the best things in life most of the time you have to work for =)

Just got an evo a couple of weeks ago and I’m loving life, I miss some of the iPhone features but this definitely is a contender.

The Android 2.1 OS has gone through many changes from the first G1 phone I saw with T Mobile a couple years back!

I’ll be posting some of my favorite features soon!

Cable Length Signal Degredation…

Posted in Novice on November 20, 2009 by luisalicea

There is a varying degree of cable quality with these numbers, but it’s a good starting point if you are wiring your home or something for an office conference room.

Coaxial –100 feet.
Cat6 – 300 feet.
Composite –50 feet.
S-Video –60 feet.
VGA –50 feet. (VGA with a DA is about 100 Feet.)
DVI –30 Feet.
Shielded Audio Cable –150 feet.
HDMI –32 feet.

Like I said earlier though different gauge and different quality of copper will always make a big difference in those lengths, but if you just go to Best Buy or your basic local retail store that sells consumer products most of their degradation lengths are the one’s above.

Vally Wally!

Posted in myLife on November 6, 2009 by luisalicea

So normally someone gets sick one time in the flu/winter season. Well unfortunately my wife woke up this morning with a fever!

I feel really bad for her, she’s been working so hard!

But the main point of this post is because of her.

I’ve been always amazed by people that work with kids, but none as much as my wife.

She has a way of getting kids to eat out of the palm of their hands. You might say “well she’s made to be a mom” but I’ve known many moms in my life…that sounds wierd, but this is different. She takes some of the simplest games or makes up one and the kids just eat it up! I’ll be standing there thinking “There is no way that a kid would go for this!” AND THEY DO!

There’s just something about Val…

But don’t think for a second this is me changing my mind about having kids right now. =)

I’ve finally made a website that is dedicated to the tech team and tech systems at NewSpring Church.

It has information on how our volunteer ministry works and how some of the systems are setup, like audio. Some of it is still in development, but I’m just really happy to finally have that out there and available for everyone!

Messed Up Communication

Posted in Uncategorized on November 5, 2009 by luisalicea

You know I’ve really struggling with the whole mass media and communication bombardment we are having these days.

You’ve got Messenger, Facebook, Blogs, MySpace, Twitter, Text Msg…and I could go on. It seems that we are so overloaded with ways of communication…

So tell me why does it seem like we (as in the world) are not closer than we should?

Think about it suicide is on the rise among teens and if you ask a bunch of teens/adults what is one of their biggest struggles right now, most of them will say loneliness…

Loneliness! Isn’t that odd? I can call my friend living in Charlotte, or email him, or chat with him on gmail, or text him. We are talking about instant communication here! Instant! Even if my friends are in a meeting most of the time they will respond to a text msg in that meeting.

Loneliness…

I personally think it can be an addiction. Just like drugs, porn, computer gaming, smoking, etc. All these communication tools just become another way to fill that void that we all have…yet it can never be filled.

If you feel that void and feel like you’ve been trying to fill it…trust me on this. Watch newspring.org/live this weekend.

Because deep down inside we all know the world is freakin’ messed up…
